Photographic look behind the scenes
Putting research in Upper Austria on stage in a creative and vivid way. This is the goal of the Photo Challenge 2019, initiated by the Upper Austrian Research GmbH in cooperation with the Federation of Austrian Industries and the renowned Prague Photo School.
The photos by artist Elisabeth Mandl win the "Digitalization" theme.
Three photographers took on the challenge of capturing impressions in the research fields of "Digitization", "Industrial Production" and "Mobility & Logistics" that give space to the individual, the researcher, in dealing with technology and thereby reflect upon both scientific work and skills in an aesthetic way. All the series created in the course of the Photo Challenge provide exciting insights and are inspiring.
MEDUSA wins
From MEDUSA's point of view, we are very happy about the award in the field of "Digitalization". Elisabeth Mandl's photo series "Simulation System for Neurosurgeons", in which she accompanied the planning and implementation of a highly complex procedure, convinced the jury. The highlighted image shows Univ.-Prof. Dr. Gruber surrounded by nature, calm and concentrated preparing for the operation. Meanwhile noticeably absent: any form of technology. It is the human being who is breaking new ground, learning, perfecting.
